It's the (possible) end of the world as we know it.

    Seriously, for all us non-permies.

How will this play out I wonder?

there are times when someone who should be an employee is
engaged on a self-employed basis. There are a number of benefits of engaging
someone on a self-employed basis to the engager. The engager does not have
to pay 13.8 per cent employer NICs and has none of the other costs associated
with being an employer, including those associated with employment rights such
as pensions contributions, redundancy pay and sick pay. The worker may
benefit from a small increase in pay in the short term but this is at the expense of
longer term benefits and protections such as employment rights.
Yep, looks like it's translated from the weasel words of the Dutch VVD junior finance minister. Of course the VVD became the biggest party largely thanks to more than 80% of the 1,000,000 self employed people in NL voting for them.

They're going to protect you against exploitation and give you the right to social security, long term benefits and employment rights. As if you asked for that.

    The filthy scum.

The only answer is to vote for your friendly local communist party, because if they do exactly the opposite of what they say (like most politicians), we'll all be fine.

Is it malice or incompetence or more likely a bit of both ?
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

PCG are seeking clarification. HMRC did originally tell them that this does not impact PSCs [sic].

Maybe the problem is just careless wording and unintentional consequences, something that happened a lot under the Labour government.

Both, plus desperation for revenues to keep funding a bloated government.

TheCyclingProgrammer says subsequently that it isn't the end.

So I'm a bit more hopeful.

I see a lot of references to someone registering as self-employed, then an intermediary placing them with a client.

That isn't true for me. I am not registered as self-employed. I am an employee of my LtdCo.

You can ignore the arguments about "You are employing yourself", the fact is that this appears to be addressing those who are legally registered as self-employed.

              Therefore, a non-issue (for now).

But then IR35 was only meant to target the Friday to Monday scenario, and we all know how that ended up

This government seems intent on killing freelancing, funny I thought it would be a Labour government not the Tories who pulled the trigger!

Looks like another cluster**** piece of legislation with ambiguity and massive unforeseen consequences.
When has this ever happened before?

On my (very brief read) looks like they do not want to hit freelancers - see section 4.6 to 4.12, but make it harder to dodge, i.e. emphasis now on direction and control. But if you have income from multiple sources you are excluded from this legislation.

Which makes me safe, but correct me if I've interpreted this wrong!
