          in other news

          Al Gores claim that the arctic would be ice free in 2013 seems to be unlikely to come true.

          There is a lot of ice up there now, and its thicker than normal as well

            Yeah but thats just a normalised average localised high not taking into account long term changes and lows or erm empircal data from the sea levels and oh erm sunlight reflectivity caused by increased deforestation.

                FTFY.

                At the time (2007 ISTR), the rate of decline accelerated sharply, fortunately, it regressed back to the long term trend since then, otherwise Al's prediction would have been optimistic.
