    Back with a BOOM!

Seems I wasn't cut out for permiedom.

Managed to wangle out of a stupidly long notice period, have a few weeks off to enjoy my new house and start a new gig next month.

              again!

I wonder whether this is the case. I've had the same sort of experience and I've heard this phrase from both employers and contractors; some employers don't like taking on contractors as permies because they expect they won't stick around. But why not turn it around? Maybe some employers aren't suited to employing independently minded professional people who take initiative and try to get things done. Many employers talk of wanting people who are 'results driven...motivated and independent...bla bla' but then when you actually start working there and try to get initiatives off the ground you get bogged down in internal politics, restricted by managers who are protecting their own territory and judged by people who see nothing of what you're doing or why you're doing it. Perhaps many employers just aren't suited to employing the kind of people they say they need and need to take a long hard look at their own managers. Is it perhaps a damning indictment of the employer (or his 'management team') that you (and I) celebrate getting the hell out? Perhaps; I might be wrong of course.

Well done, at least you will be paid twice as much to watch the stupidity!

Not sure why they like the long notice periods it seems to be when they don't want you then you get 3-6 months paid at home and when you want to go they get 3 - 6 months of you hardly interested. It's not like they will hire your replacement before you leave, it takes HR 3 months to advertise the job!
