Drinking alcohol during pregnancy could be ruled a crime
Lawyers plan to take a test case to the Court of Appeal over claims that children harmed in the womb by their mother's drinking should receive compensation as victims of crime

At first sight it looks like more Nanny state - but actually turns out to be lawyers making the world a misery.

AS Shakespeare said - first lets kill all the lawyers.....

Causing harm to your unborn child because you're too selfish/thick should be a crime. Its not ok to chuck your kid around when its born etc so whys it ok when its being 'cooked'.

Women like this should have the kids take off them, spend 6 months in jail, then be sterilised.

    No excuse for it.

Yes cos that's best for the kids isn't it.

Don't want to get all pro-feminist or anything, but what about the feckless fathers, who can just walk away from their responsibilities, and leave the mother, and society to pick up the pieces?
I reckon sterilising them would also be a good thing.

Just sterilise everybody. Then you can apply to be unsterilised and if you conform to the ideal parent profile you will be allowed to procreate.

Bit of a dodgy road to go down IMO. Obviously drinking to toxic levels is wrong, but who is to say what the cut off should be? A glass of wine with a meal? Two?

You then open the door to all sorts of other stuff too. What about mothers who endanger their children by eating soft cheese etc?

If you don't quite fit the profile, can you be semi-skimmed instead of full-blown sterilised?

Wonder what excessive booze does to sperm? Only a matter of time before some researcher makes a link. On the plus side, they will probably be too pickled to find the egg.

I think you're confusing elimination of bacteria with removal of fat.
