Foreign millionaires to claim benefits in Britain!

    The Wail

Hundreds of foreign millionaires apply for Maltese passports that give them the right to live in Britain - and even to claim benefits | Mail Online

    Applicants must pay out:
a €650,000 payment to a new economic development fund
    €150,000 investment in government bonds.
Applicants must also spend at least €350,000 on a property to be kept for at least five years.
A further contribution of €25,000 is payable for the spouse and young children of the applicant, rising to €50,000 for adult children and the grandparents of each spouse.
As well as receiving its commission, H&P will charge client fees of €70,000 per main applicant, plus an additional €10,000 to €15,000 per spouse or dependant.

    ...and then they'll claim benefits?

    Sure.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

    Sure.
Poor Malta. Chinese already have half of Greece.
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

its a bit tenous even for the fail. If you have those assets you can't really apply for benefits, however I suppose their family could if dispossessed.

but the ability to 'buy a passport' seems to be an issue.

Why is it an issue if somebody is prepared to pay a million for it?

        USA had it for ages.

Quite, it's uncontrolled immigration that is the problem

People able to support themselves shouldn't be an issue
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

It seems somewhat 'unfair' to others and as Malta may not be the final destination getting an EU passport seems a little naughty. We may have excluded someone from the UK but once they are an EU citizen they have a right to come here.

If they had a million to buy passport then you can be sure they won't be claiming benefits in UK if that's their ultimate direction of travel. There should be a EU minimum set on how much to pay in those cases, a million is pretty decent amount.

And why would somebody want to go to rainy UK instead of staying in sunny Malta?

It's old news. It's been reported at least 8-10 months ago on more serious toilet paper than the Daily Scumbag. This is happening every day in glorious Britain. The rich Chinese are buying British passports (legally) in their thousands.

DM couldn't find any news about vile Bulgarians or Romanians today.
<Insert idea here> will never be adopted because the politicians are in the pockets of the banks!

It does happen in UK also, but the price is higher than Malta.

Mohamed Al Fayed couldn't get one and he's not short of a few quid.
