BBC News - Magistrates should sit in police stations, report says

Better still, lets get the police to do it. After all, they already think they are the law rather than upholding the law.

with video conferencing the magistrates can sit in a nice comfy office away from the police station (so they don't go native). They can do multiple stations as well. Just put video conferencing in the interview room.

very sensible if you do it that way. The police know they are being monitored and people being arrested for stepping on the cracks in the pavement get out sooner.

Yes, but only if defendants want to plead guilty. They will need time to prepare for a trial otherwise.

They use the fixed penalty system for most of those that plead guilty. i personally don't agree with that because I have seen it abused.

It would probably be like the drunk courts in the US. Duty solicitors would represent them.

Morning, we have video evidence and blood alcohol readings proving he was in a car / fight at the time.

KPI would be how many were deferred.
