Best residential areas for some one who works in canary wharf

    Hi,

I will be moving to UK to work in canary wharf. I am married and have no children. Currently evaluating areas to stay. My main requirements are:

    1. Flat/Apartment should not be a shared one
    2. At-least one bedroom
    3. Rent per month max is 850
    4. Travel time to working place should be less than 45 minutes
    5. the area should have shops, bars, etc

Since I have no experience in living in UK, i'd like to get opinions from community to decide on a good residential areas with above requirements.

    Purfleet

Rents are still cheap, Lakeside shopping center is 5 mins away in a car with everything shopping wise and cinemas, restaurants etc

Just pick the commuter properties towards the Opera House, and stay well away from the The Garrison council estate and you'll be fine
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

You'll want to be near a Jubilee line or DLR station. Greenwich is nice and has a big park, so I'd probably start there.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Isn't that a bit of a tall order?

One bedroom basement flat in Greenwich would cost > £230 per week. Perhaps they could find something in Charlton for that price?
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

You'll struggle to find a one-bed flat for 850 a month, although 45 minutes travel time does give you some options. As Doodab says, look at some of the DLR or Jubilee line stations.

To the north of Canary Wharf you have Poplar, All Saints etc. Absolute tulipholes but they'll be fairly cheap if you don't get stabbed.

To the south, Lewisham might have something in that price range.

To the east, the further out you go the cheaper it will get but if you end up in Essex you'll probably be getting National Rail and changing to the Jubilee line at some point.

              Not Canary Wharf.

Look at the boat and crossrail options too.

Woolwich is getting better, out by city airport is on the build and the boat goes as far as Putney these days.

Double your money and you might get the isle of dogs, couple of dodgy streets down there though.

£1500 min + poll tax + bills so about £1750 unless you want a bedroom only in someones house.

Rather than commuting for 2 hours a day, ask you client for aother £100 a day and you will work and extra hour and get a flat within walking disdance.

                £850 - lol

Which country are you coming from?

If you have no UK Credit history, it isn't going to be easy to secure an Assured Tenancy without one, unless you have 6 months rental to pay in advance, or a UK Guarantor.
