Superb idea for Government Infrastructure project - Bypass M62

Following many journeys of excruciating suffering on the M62, I have finally come up with a master plan which will yield economic and social benefits on numerous levels.

Here is the outline for my awesome plan:

Problem: M62 is a nightmare and the worst motorway in the universe with endless accidents, delays, congestion both ways between Leeds and Manchester

Solution: Build a tunnel which goes under the Pennines between the North of Manchester and the centre of Leeds

    Benefits:
    - Project will produce jobs and improve the economy
    - The commute to Leeds/Manchester will not be subject to snow, wind and rain all combined to produce the most dangerous journey known to man. Instead the tunnel will be sheltered and the journey will be smooth
    - Economic activity between Leeds and Manchester (and hence the North as a whole) will grow for decades to come
    - I will be able to accept gigs in Leeds without the thought of the M62 putting me into a convulsive state resulting in a mental breakdown and hours of emotional wreckage
    - Leeds United supporters will finally make the switch to supporting a proper football team (Manchester United).
    - Yorkshire tea supplies could be sent to Manchester quickly in the event of an emergency shortage
    - And plenty of other benefits I am sure you could all think of....

Or maybe just more work from home, recognised by the tax code...

Then we can't claim the 80 miles journey each way we would supposedly be taking on the M62.......

That's another benefit right there - claim 80 miles instead of the 40 miles it would be taking in the tunnel - genius.

M62 bad? Wait until you get a gig that involves a rush hour trip through the M60/M62/M602 junction at Eccles. M62 across the Pennines is a dream compared to that.

Trips into town when you are already in the region are easy - get the tram or the train. At least you have a few choices there. Getting to Leeds from outside central Manchester is a nightmare where we have no option other than to drive.

              I knew the M62 is a nightmare

Out of interest what it's like by Train between Manchester and Leeds for commuting ??
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

I'm trying to work out exactly when the 10 year anniversary of me closing the M62 westbound for two hours on a Monday morning rush hour is.....

I believe its this Saturday coming Saturday.

I hasten to point out it wasn't my fault, I braked, the corsa behind me tried to change lane, and the northgate transit behind him pushed the corsa into the back of me at an angle....

When the airbags go off you can't see a thing removing the ability to work out what direction you need to go in.....

Unless you can get the word "London" in there a few times, government funding seems unlikely.

How many miles is it? Can't you cycle down the tow path of the Liverpool to Leeds Canal, which passes near Manchester doesn't it?

I used to enjoy going over the M62, with the great views. But it can be difficult in winter.
