Russian troops massing on the Ukraine border

After Annexing Crimea, Russian Troops Are Piling Up By The East Ukraine Border

Despite the relentless protests of Kiev, and of course the G7 group of world's most indebted nations, in the past two weeks Vladimir Putin once again succeeded in outplaying the west and annexed the Crimea peninsula without firing a single shot (granted there is still potential for material situational deterioration, one which would involve military participation by NATO whose outcome is not exactly clear). The market has "priced in" as much, with prevailing consensus now dictating that Russia will preserve its foothold in the Crimea however without additional attempts for annexation: certainly Poland is hoping and praying as much. However, as the following photos taken on the Russian side of East Ukraine, next to Belgorod, the Russian airborne troops ("VDV") are now piling up, only not in Crimea, which needs no further Russian military presence, but ostensibly to prepare for the next part of the annexation: that of Russian-speaking east Ukraine. ...

Should we expect Pooty Poot to talk of Russia needing 'living space' next ?
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Slight problem with that article; the pictures are not of the Ukraine-Russian Eastern boarder which is mountainous and not flat.

All stop this anti-Semitism, Israel has a right to exist (replace Semitism with Russianism and Israel with Russia).

What Russia have done in the Crimea has very close parallels with what we did in Ireland about a century ago.
Essentially, they have simply annexed a small portion of a neighbouring country that hosts a majority of pro-soviet voters.
Their reason is probably to secure the military benefits of some warm water ports, our reason was to prevent the bloodshed that would have resulted had gun-toting rednecks like Carson been allowed to go on the rampage if Ireland as a whole had been given Home Rule. A Home Rule, it should be remembered, that was overwhelmingly popular amongst Irishmen of all religious persuasions prior to the great fudge of partition.
Now I am not saying it is morally acceptable that Putin has done this, I am just making the point that it makes us look a tad hypocritical to be rebuking him so vehemently for it.

It's not hypocritical to suggest he shouldn't make the same balls-ups as we have though. Some of us even tried to tell the Septics, too, but sometimes you just have to let kids make their own mistakes.

It's also a load of tosh to try to draw that historical parrallel.

What shaunbhoy is suggesting is that the UK pulled out of Ireland as a whole, then decided they wanted NI so moved back in, using the significant English (or English descended), pro-Union majority as an excuse to do so.
Alternatively, it would be as if the USSR had allowed Ukraine to declare it's independence, but never given up Crimea and kept it as a part of Russia.

The key difference here is when a country says "This land is yours, not ours" and then decides they don't like that anymore and sends in the troops to take it back.

It makes the statement "What Russia have done in the Crimea has very close parallels with what we did in Ireland about a century ago." incorrect.

I thought what I had written was fairly clear. I forgot that people on here have such problems with comprehension.
