    What am I missing

    Hello,

I am currently living in Dublin working as permanent employee and considering (since a while ago) switching into contracting. I am a Java guy (Spring, Hibernate and currently working on finance) but also I have started Android few months ago on my company to maintain and add functionality to the company app. I also know Python (some contributions to Plone) which I use mainly for automation.

I have around 7 years of experience and I am a really techie guy... Am I in the wrong path to switch to contracting?

I am starting to be sick of the permie typical reviews, values and company spirit...

    Thanks

Have you had a look on jobserve and any other boards to see if there are gigs on their that match your skillset? Same around linkedin. As a contractor you are taken on to supply a specific piece of work for which you are perceived as a specialist. If you do not fulfill the role 100% then it's not valid for you. Being the good guy that will be an asset to the company but not fully up to speed on the role offered isn't going to cut it.

If there are plenty of roles on there that you can do the minute you walk in a clients door then yes you can contract. If they all need a bit of this or a bit of the other which you don't have then a bit of retraining my get you better prepared.
