BBC News - Classroom teddy bears 'prompt competitive parenting'

Story about parent one-upmanship when kids get to take home the class bear and record in a diary what he's been up to.

Instead of simple visits to the park or walks in the country, teachers report that bears have spent weekends attending orchestra rehearsals, piloting ships and enjoying high-profile events.
    ...
One teacher told the TES they had received the class bear diary with a photo caption, saying: "The bear wandered aimlessly around B&Q, looking at taps."
    Brilliant.

We won this one hands down. MF02 is a graphic designer. When the book went back it had pictures of teddy at Stonehenge, at a rock concert, cycling the golden gate bridge, bungee jump, at the pyramids, with Obama and on the moon.

We pitied who had it next.

This still makes my blood run cold.

I did the bear thing with little one, took her away for the weekend to visit farm friends and got loads of snaps with calfs, lambs, driving a tractor, sitting in the orchard etc. Then I left the ******* thing there and didn't realise till I was home. Cue another 300 mile round trip to collect Bertie the B^stard Bear.

I recall leaving my favourite teddy bear on a bus once. My mother brought me a new one and insisted it was the same one in reincarnated form. Kids will believe anything.

            PS Much like most adults.

Hmmm, our school bear was called Bertie as well. Generally, getting Bertie was seen as A Bad Thing by the parent population.

My little one still believes that her cuddly donkey went on a 2 year adventure to Australia before coming back.

Gordon the big blue engine broke his buffers after falling in the ditch one too many times, so we went through the rigmarole of pretending to send him off to Crewe, "a fine place for sick engines" to get repaired.

Used to have live creatures when I was a nipper.

I can remember bringing the class Guinea Pig home for the holidays - and it survived. Was back in the 70s though.

Can we bring Pogle home for the holidays?
