Could you take a year off?

Inspired by the Strike Rate thread, I'm intrigued now - if you worked solidly for twelve months, could you then afford to take the following year off?

I know I couldn't, because my outgoings are greater than 50% of my invoicing value. But evidently, some can - so can you?

Probably, but wouldn't want to. I think anything more than 6 months in our industry is the death knell due to the way in which it moves forward so fast. If I knew that I wasn't going to go back to IT and had something lined up and that the year off was not going to be sitting at home in my o-backs watching chav TV then, yeah, quite possibly...

Just about, yes. But I prefer to work 180 days per year each year as a rule.

Yes. I've banked enough to take the next ten years off.

If I could be sure of work at the end of it, I'd take a year off tomorrow.

                Is that assuming no parole?

I was rather surprised to discover that giving up drinking and working only from home (so no expensive transport, coffee or lunches) means I can get by working less than half the time. Although I'm no longer generating much of a surplus.
