Child benefit worth £30m paid by Britain to families across EU | Mail Online

Child benefit worth £30million paid by Britain to families across the EU but Cameron admits it is 'impossible' to stop it
UK taxpayer funds payments to 20,400 families with 34,268 children
Almost two-thirds sent to Poland, followed by Ireland, Lithuania and Latvia
David Cameron says no-one he has met thinks the benefits are 'sensible'
But Prime Minister warns that under existing EU rules it cannot be blocked
Tory MP Andrew Rosindell says claims should be blocked for five years
child benefit only paid to children that are UK resident. easy.

    doesn't require renegotiation surely?

30 million? That's more than some MPs get in moat cleaning allowance.

And nearly as much as UKIP MEPs get from the EU gravy train.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

This figure is pretty much something pulled out of the air by the papers. The actual report only has data on the number of claimants but does not actually have the amount paid out. There were 20,400 awards made in relation to 34,268 children living abroad. To get this 30m figure the papers have multiplied the annual provision for the eldest child (£1055.60) by 20,400 to get a yearly cost of £21.5m. To this they’ve added the annual amount provided for younger children (£696.80) multiplied by the remaining 13,868 children, giving £9.7m. This gives a total annual cost of £31.2m.

But no-one knows if this is the actual sum handed over as when a family is eligible to receive child benefits from both their own country and the UK, the British government will sometimes top up the sum received in the host country. This means that not all the monies paid out by HMRC could be for the full rate. In other words the papers are showing worst case figures without stating this and the masses lap it up

They are working and paying tax in the UK, but their families are still in another country. Obviously the majority of these will be leaving Britain at some point to rejoin their families.

Their families don't use the NHS, they don't use public services and they don't use the schools. Effectively child benefit is nothing more than a tax rebate.

In short, they cost the UK tax payer nothing.
