    Queen's Speech: Infrastructure Bill

    Hmmm...sounds ominous

Under the infrastructure bill, developers will be given the power to push through applications without the need for council approval in a move described by planning experts as a "nuclear option"
    Link

I think I've already made my feelings known on this subject. I'm generally ok with small scale developments in rural areas so long as they provide affordable housing for local people thus negating their need to move away to the urban sprawl surrounding our local market towns.

From what I can see (and I've already mentioned the 100 houses planned for our neighbouring village) the reality of the situation is that these developments are large in scale, are not remotely sympathetic to the surrounding area and upset the balance of village life.

At least councils have had the power to turn these applications down but it looks like this legislation will send the whole issue the same way as wind turbines - i.e. the planning inspectorate will ride roughshod over the wishes of local people in order to hit the (no doubt EU defined) targets.

And you can't help wondering whether all this development would be necessary if it weren't for a net annual migration influx of 200k+. That's a city the size of Bristol every 2 years ffs!

    this pisses me off

where I live they are trying to build on every scrap of land - including the flood plains ffs!!!

it is not that people do not want more houses it is the fact that no though goes into the infrastructure and so you have the same road/rail links etc suddenly having to cope with another 100/200 commuters

    madness

Wait till those immigrants grow old, they'll be saying we need millions of immigrants to pay for their pensions and benefits
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

you aren't allowed to say this, they arrive and enrich our society then disappear into fairy land at a rate of -200,000 a year.

Well, the net migration for the UK stands at closer to 180K and has been falling for a few years now. And saying that Bristol has a population of 200K is like saying London has a population of 7000. Whilst technically correct, it doesn't give an accurate picture.

              Not according to the BBC:

27 February 2014 Big increase in net migration to UK

Net UK migration increased to 212,000 in the year to September 2013, pushing it further away from the Conservatives' target of below 100,000, according to official estimates.

The Office for National Statistics said the net flow - the numbers moving to the UK minus the numbers leaving it - rose from 154,000 in the previous year.

The increase has been driven by a big growth in the number of European Union citizens coming to Britain.
And that increase does not take account of the much higher birthrate among migrants and some ethnic groups, ie the product of previous Our quality of life is being wrecked by an influx that provides no measurable increase in GDP per capita f the existing population.

However I would say there is too much emphasis on EU migrants. Better to have Poles than those from some Commonwealth countries whose impact is worse.

On a similar theme, this is how they've worked out how the local school will be able to service the needs of 100 new houses:

                Current headcount = 68
                Maximum supportable headcount = 90
Addition to headcount as result of 100 new houses = 14

Its the last number I have trouble with. Smacks of being plucked out of thin air to me...

the reason it was falling is that the coalition closed most of the bogus colleges and the other EU countries are starting to come out of recession so the Eastern Europeans are going there for jobs.

but as pointed it out its rising again!

Some would suggest it should be zero or negative if we are to survive without concreting over most of the UK.

Not just schools, provision of water supplies, sewage, electricity, roads, recycling, hospitals etc. Anyone who lives in the south east should take a look at the future plans of their water company and why metering or new plants are said to be needed. None of this is ever included in the "benefits" of mass immigration of course.
