I have said for over a year the US is happy to let this Syria stuff linger on as it will eventually destabilise Iran, now only a matter of time before Iran has to get involved.

I can bet Iran already is involved as it is involved in Syria. This is now becoming a wider conflict that is spiralling out of control.
