Agents - WTF? I'm bored, get me outta here!

    Guys & Girls of CUK,

After 14 years contracting, am I the only one who thinks that 2013/14 has been the most tulip year of the lot??

I Jobserved myself for 1078 gigs from November until today, every single one of which I have strong experience in with big names. I reckon I have had about 4 phone calls, 1 interview (at which it turned out the gig wasn't as described & they wanted a dev, not an Infrastructure type!!) & no bloody luck.

I know I've got the Monday blues but a bitching session shared is a bitching session, well, shared I suppose. ARGH!

I'm not *actually* worried because the war chest is good, I'm just bloody bored waiting for other work (tenders & suchlike) to come off, so I don't have to use the warchest to buy new toys out of hahaha.

    Who else is frigging bored!?!!

Nope, 2009 was the worst for me - this year's been brill!

1078 agents are mean and ignoring you even though you are super leet, I wonder what the odds are of that rather than you still doing the same thing when applying for jobs that you did 14 years ago

What is it you do that there are that many jobs to apply at a rate of 40 a week? No offence but something must be wrong.

I have to confess that I've been good with renewals this year so it's easy to be blasé about things but I had a look at JobServe the other day and there was a remarkably dearth of contract roles for which I'd be suitable. 2009 levels.

Quite frightening really but with the service sector booming I'm guessing that there are plenty of roles out there it's just that agents maybe are using different channels to advertise - LinkedIn perhaps?

              +1

Late 2009 to early 2010 was a good break, but since then it's been very good for me too.

2014 is a bit meh so far. Highest rate in 14 years, work is total crud though.

                Only 8 weeks to go

Even Richard Cranium only needed 633 applications to get a role.

Spamming agents with an ineffective CV doesn't seem to be working, but good luck with application 1079.

Applied for three roles and got offered three roles in 2013/14 so can't complain either....

1078 gig since November doesn't seem right. You are saying you were a perfect match for all of those? From the responses you got I would say you aren't and need to look more closely at what you are applying for rather than a scatter gun approach.
