Many companies forced to raise wages due to shortages of EU staff.

Companies are suffering from a “supply shock” as fewer EU citizens come to the UK, and companies struggle to fill vacancies, according to a survey of 2,000 employers.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) said the number of applicants per vacancy had fallen since last summer across all levels of skilled jobs, and said shortages were forcing many companies to raise wages.

    Boo hoo

All these years of being told EU migrants weren't dragging wages down what a shock.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

Is that Rothschild-speak for "actually having to stop getting away with paying a pittance"?
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist

no they're still getting away with it

Businesses continue to pay a pittance in spite of shortage of workers

never mind, if you read behind the headlines what is actually happening is companies are holding down wages of British workers and offering immigrants more to entice them to come.

It's Armageddon. We have to pay the strawberry pickers more.

But is this worth another release of Project fear ? Oh go on then. But only a minor version number:

          PROJECT FEAR: Release 2.1.371.33

          Contributor: The Guardian/CIPD

          Enhancements implemented:

          - "Supply Shock! The number of people moving to the UK from other EU countries has fallen to its lowest level for 5 years."

So shocking. Will the Guardian be responding with a pay rise for those 18k interns who brought us the story? I guess it depends on the response to its front page pleading campaign (".. as little as £1 !").

Aren't we very close to just having strawberry picking robots instead?

This thread is full of real life business people who hire a lot of staff other than themselves.

              Oh wait...

There is a massive skills shortage at the high end of the market (I'm not talking at the bottom with thousands of low skilled PMs and BAs fighting it out with the ICTs).
The UK does not produce enough good STEM MScs and PhDs.
The best ones are swallowed by the Googles, Facebooks, pharmas etc and there is a huge shortfall.
In the end if the staff cannot be found firms will move abroad, but for now the salaries and rates for such people are high and rising.

At the lower end there's no rise at all, there's too much supply of mediocrity.
                Hard Brexit now!
