And so the EU stood by and did nothing and therefore by their silence they approved of it of this abuse of human rights.

    Because it supported their agenda.

Because Spain, like the UK, is a sovereign nation...but maybe that doesn't fit your agenda
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

If Catalan had got independence from Spain and the EU then the Eu would have been on even shakier ground.

You can imagine Junker and his pals putting huge pressure on the Spanish government to make this problem go away.

Yes you can imagine it, but it isn't what happened.

Of course and you know that why.

So lets look at this - Spanish police commit some brutal acts which verge on breaching human rights and the EU did nothing.

            Is this because

            a) The EU approves of human rights breaches

            or

            b) The Eu approves of the reason for the unreasonable use of force by the police because it approves of the reason for it.

People are not defined by their words but by their actions.

            Read between the lines.

No because Spain is a sovereign nation, it's not up to the EU to police it's own internal affairs. Imagine if it had, then people like you would be complaining that the EU is interfering in a sovereign nation's internal affairs

Say there’s another Indy Ref for Scotland.

And let’s say there’s a bit of trouble in Berwick-on-Tweed. The riot police are sent in and get a bit heavy handed.

Would you expect “the EU” to step in? Who exactly do you think “they” would send, and why?

Sounds typical for a Saturday night.

This is the UK. Not Spain.

One might have expected some sort of condemnation.................after all, they were very quick off the mark when it was the Israelis getting heavy-handed................and that falls way outside their supposed remit.
