    Default Post-Brexit immigration fears

Ministers braced for influx of British expats from EU in event of no-deal Brexit

Ministers are braced for an influx of British expats in the event of a no-deal Brexit if the European Union fails to guarantee their right to stay living on the continent.

There are approximately one million UK nationals living in the EU with a quarter of them aged 65 or over and their status if there is a disorderly Brexit remains unclear.

The UK has set out the terms on which EU nationals will be able to stay living and working in the UK if no divorce deal is agreed and it has pleaded with Brussels to take reciprocal action.

A failure to reciprocate could have significant consequences for Britons abroad and would likely force many to return to the UK, potentially placing a considerable strain...

Surely Brussels wouldn't be so small minded and petty as to not reciprocate.

Brussels will reciprocate - British ex-pats will be allowed to do the same thing as EU nationals will be allowed in UK: to have full freedom in the country of their residence...

In any case I can't be forced to leave the EU
“We've always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we've barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.”

No European country is going to start deporting British pensioners. This is a remainer fantasy.

The truth about Brexit is that so little is going to change it will be surreal.

Who said deport? The phrase is “right to reside”.

If you’re arguing that Brits still have a right to reside after Brexit, go ahead and state your case.
