Scrap first past the post. It worked well in 1600's but not in 2019. Landowners don't govern the plebs anymore. Well expect for Swindon, no self respecting landowner would touch that place.

And it's why so many European countries change their governments more often than you change your socks. It also removes the one cornerstone our system has: democratic accountability. You no longer vote for a Member of Parliament, you vote for a party. They then decide which of their candidates will be "an MP" for your region, and you can bet your arse it will be the candidate who has brown-nosed the best, and promised to vote with the party at all times and be a very good boy/girl/something in-between.

It's more democratic for political parties, but far less democratic for the voters. And in a democracy, surely that's the point. The clue's in the name...

I know you grew up in a country where voting was a ceremonial process, at best, but for those of us who take the concept of democracy seriously, it's not so "simples".
Yes, I could refuse to vote, as could everyone else, but that's the death of democracy. #WhatWouldPutinWant...

First past the post IS the death - basically wasted vote in most of places because people vote mostly for the party in this country.
