Default Boris gets the check book out.

    Not his own, obviously.

Tory leadership contest: Boris Johnson pledges income tax cut for high earners - BBC News

So despite years of austerity, cuts to public services and spending, there is £26 billion available as a one off to pay for Brexit. Apparently that means you can spaff £10 billion of that on tax cuts for the better off as an ongoing cost.

Raising the 40% threshold to 80K is more about taking lots of middle earners out of the 40% tax bracket. wooing middle England in preparation for a GE.

Maybe it is just the very logical assumption that with the way things are someone earning just £60k a year and trying to support a family and pay the mortgage and the bills and provide food and try and take the family on holiday once a year needs a bit of a break...

60k ain't what it used to be.

Especially if you consider the average UK salary is just under the 30k so two people earning the average are going to be better off than one person earning 60k .

Not really commenting on the politics but the reality of the cost of living.

Ah, the bribe to rich Tory members to vote for him...not a surprising more really, typical Tory
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Except earning 60k a year will make you far from rich.

Salry of 60k per year is 5k per month or about 3.5 k after tax

    Mortgage - 1100
    Cars - 500
    Nursery fees - 800
    Pension - 300
    Food - 400
    Utilities etc - 250

This leaves £150 a month for the devils dandruff and clothes and holidays etc....

Not sure how much some Columbian Marching Powder is but....
