I think the point his nib’s was making.. the EU has way more clout and ergo the UK. Divided is weakness, Trump knows this. It’s how bullies think.

Reagan did it in 1986 - he even launched some of the attacks from US bases in the UK.

Spitting image did a hilarious sketch at the time of Thatch phoning him and getting a recorded message saying "we're going in, bye" . As usual, the satire was reflective of the truth.

The USA doesn't ever, and hasn't ever given a shiny tulip about anything except the USA.

In trade yes, but the EU is actually weak in terms of security and foreign policy compared with nations like UK or France. The bloc just squabbles over what it should say whereas a nation can act or speak decisively.

Dunno about 1986, but he did it in 1983 & the Sainted Margaret was not best pleased:

United States invasion of Grenada - Wikipedia

British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher privately disapproved of the mission and the lack of notice that she received, but she publicly supported it
I assume the 1986 event was bombing the crap out of Libya.

The UK had no troops or gripe with Grenada - that was a US issue.

The Middle East by contrast is very different.

He did inform Maggie about Libya in advance contrary the OP's post.
