Scotland is recognised as a nation with its own laws, education system, etc. We just happen to be in a political union that we are now about to dissolve.
don't we get a say in this?

It wasn’t agreed in any officially signed agreement, either Edinburgh Agreement or Smith Commission, that it was ‘once in a lifetime’ or even ‘once in a generation’

Apart from that, in the Good Friday Agreement, a generation is defined as 7 years. That means 2121 is the end of that generation anyway

If you stay in Scotland then yes, you will get a say.

As explained in a previous post, independence will be decided by the people in Scotland without interference by another country’s people.

              Expats? You mean emigrants?

People living and working in Scotland including EU citizens and 16-18 year-olds will have the vote. It would be based on the electoral register as all votes in elections are. You’re welcome to move back and join us.

It may be academic anyway as the way to independence isn’t necessarily through a plebiscite.

Is Whitehall right to be afraid of Scotland?

It’s the only way you can hold a vote. How do we control a list of people who claim to be Scottish from all over the world? We don’t have access to electoral registers in other countries.

You wouldn’t be an alien. Everyone of Scottish descent or those who want to be considered Scottish would be able to apply for Scottish citizenship much like people can apply for an Irish passport if they qualify.
