Didn't they need to declare a state of national emergency to do this?

They didn’t have to go to Brussels and have votes from other countries. They were able to unilaterally make decisions.

Unlike here, where the government refuses to make decisions, but should no longer be blaming the EU for the government’s failures and lies.
      40 hospitals? Unlikely.
£350million a week? Claim that was never said.
      Recruit 50,000 nurses? Nope.

Thought the EU didn't like countries making unilateral decisions?, even in the case of Coranavirus...

Also, thought we were 'still in' the EU (rule takers) until the end of the transition, or is that not you understanding?

Toblerone production continues unabated. Funnily enough in the Swiss government's advice on what to stock, chocolate is on the list.

Even for a Remainer, that's moronic. You think that in "normal times" the UK could just spontaneously have said "borders shut, no bloody foreigners allowed in" and the EU would have just nodded and said, "well, that's fine, because you already have full control" ?

                Pathetic.

But no one ever put that in their manifestos etc, so it won’t be happening.

Well we haven't left the EU properly yet. We're still paying for their hospitals.

Other EU nations are only able to take control of their borders by invoking emergency powers and so on, which is rather different. And even then they have not been able to curtail movement within the Schengen zone fully.

                      "curtail"... "fully"

but they are certainly curtailing, if not fully.
If every road had a border checkpoint on it, the complaint would be "but people could still walk in over fields"

                      Something is better than nothing.

And having control of your borders is having control of your borders. There was nothing to take back.
