    Default Sausages

“ There have been cod wars and scallop wars but never a sausage war — until now. Brexit negotiators are engaged in a stand-off over the future of the banger as the prospect grows of a trade ban at the end of the year.

The dispute could result in Irish sausages being taken off British supermarket shelves and German bratwurst being turned back at Calais.

It has also led to the delicious irony of British trade negotiators telling Brussels that they intend to use the EU’s own rules to exact revenge on European producers. The saga has more than a touch of the Yes Minister sketch in which Jim Hacker fought off an attempt by Brussels to ban the British sausage.

The real-life row developed over EU regulations stating that uncooked prepared meat products, such as sausages and burgers, cannot be imported into the bloc unless they are frozen to minus 18C.”

Well as Europeans think British sausages are pretty crap (apart from whining British migrants) and you can't get them on the mainland apart from specialist shops, then no real loss...IMHO, which doesn't count for much with Brexiters, the sausages I've eaten across various different European countries have much more flavour
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Exactly Continental sausages, especially German, are far superior and the only reason why I visit Aldi.

Nah -far too much meat in that foreign muck.

We do bring back a few packs of sausages when we visit the old country. Bratwurst just doesn't do it for bangers and mash, with onion gravy. But St Gallen bratwurst, Basler Rauchwurst and French Andouillette (which also contain very little actual meat) are quite tasty. Not superior to, IMO, just not the same as the British Sausage.

Compared to what, Richmond and Wall's?

Local butchers and farmers markets offer great quality sausages, especially now they're having to make up for declining restaurant trade accounts.
