The 1970s was a decade of serious anxiety about food supplies. Norman Tebbit, of all people, urged the government to consider rationing basic foodstuffs. That played a significant role in the decision to join the EEC, and raises some important questions today. [THREAD]
Pretty much all our food imports, particularly meat and vegetables come either from the EU or via the EU. Pretending it's all going to be plain sailing is just daft.

I only buy British meat and vegetables where possible, this has never been any kind off issue. The supermarkets are full of British produced meat and vegetables, particular in the organic section.

Strictly speaking, no. Negotiating tariff-free trade deals with sensible nations shouldn't be much trouble, though.

The EU, taken as a whole is the UK’s largest trading partner. In 2019, UK exports to the EU were £294 billion (43% of all UK exports). UK imports from the EU were £374 billion (52% of all UK imports).
Total value of the deals we have to date from that link. £178.2bn, £23.8bn of which are agreed in principle but yet to be actually formalised.

Total value of trade with the EU £668bn.

                Only another £489bn to go.

These are primarily deals replicating what the UK has via the EU. They all have to be renegotiated in the not too distant future. You might also want to check the state aid rules with the Japan deal, a lot stricter than what the EU are looking for

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Two thirds of that is us buying from them. Remind me again, who is the EU looking after?
