    Capita MOD Contractor Framework etc

Anyone else spotted how badly messed up the whole contractor recruitment framework is in the MOD now that everything has to go through Capita?

Job agents have no direct contact with hiring managers and know nothing about the role they are recruiting for other than a few lines of job spec from Capita.

Anyone with clearance that is recently expired is expected to fill in war and peace, all in the name of security, list countless references etc, when many of us have had SC countless times before and would 99.99 % get it again if needed. Masses of extra bureaucracy for a speculative application, of which you may need to make many, before accidentally hitting on a role which is a good match so bad are the job specs, and rather insecurely releasing many personal details to every job agent and his dog.

To say nothing of the unrealism of the rates. World expert in qwerty, 25 years experience in something obscure, etc etc, 3 or 4 hundred quid a day. Of course they are not going to find people at those rates, and this will be more "evidence" of a skills shortage, and no doubt the will import more Indian nationals and give them SC.

    Really this is a mess.

Yep, it sounds like the closed shop party's over for you lucky SC holders.

Never worked in an SC site so maybe a silly question....

So the bobs will undergo the SC process?

And that is different to many other agent/client relationships how?

And this is Capita's fault how? The fact you even quote that only 99.99% will get it again is enough reason to go through the whole thing every time so you kind of shoot yourself in the foot in that rant.

I can only assume this is a troll post for a bit of fun?

There are bobs on defence projects.

The ones I have seen they are "supposed" to have measures in place to stop them having full access, but these tend to be weak and questionable.

For instance on systems they are maintaining they can see the source code, and test data, but are supposed to not be able to see the live data. Of course this breaks down as soon as snapshots of live data are used to make test data. And they get invited into countless meetings where people forget they are not native Brits.

The political class will do anything the can to decimate the IT workforce.

          etc etc

quite the reverse, with this silly stuff in place the incentives are higher to make sure you never work in anything but defence and let you SC lapse. and much more hassle for anyone from outside the defence world to apply for a role. So less cross pollination of skills will take place with staff from other vertical industries.

              FTFY

Word has it a new contract is being produced and due out any day now. And it's not just MOD, it's all HMG work.

no collecting the info to process SC is only necessary AFTER job offer and acceptance, to do it for every candidate and every speculative application is a waste of everyones time and energy.

                  +1

Having had experience of them in an HMG environment it's my considered opinion that they are royally taking the p*$$. Bunch of inept clowns who won the right to come and take over because they bid the lowest. Once in, they attempted to ride roughshod over contractors, using aggressive methods to get them to lower their rates - luckily most contractors stood up to them and threatened to walk which caused Capita to back down...but only a little. Add to that the fact that day to day running of the administration was shocking to behold - it was a nightmare and I was glad to get out.

Spoke to a colleague the other day and asked him how things were going - he shook his head and said 'Bunch of C-words, the lot of them'. He's got 6-months left on his contract and loyalty in abundance to his client, but he's going when the contract ends.

Anyone heard an update on this one? I've got a sniff of a contract in Central Gov but won't sign up on the existing CL1 contract although I'm not sure that the new one will be any better...
