    Default Something new for contractors...

    Hello fellow contractors,

I hope you had a fantastic bank holiday. I’m a long time contractor and first time poster and I have decided to do something a bit different. I’ve worked with all sorts of recruitment companies, some great, some average and some terrible. When researching these companies I sometimes find it hard to find any testimonials or reviews of the company and I find this a problem because I always like to know who I’m getting into bed with (These guys are responsible for my money after all).

So, what’s the solution? I’ve decided to create Trip Advisor for recruitment companies, a place solely for contractors to come together and get the low down on the recruitment company they are about to work with. I am not asking for you to critic the idea of my site or give me your recruitment horror stories.

Instead, I’m looking for what you think makes a recruitment company great, little things they have done that have made your life easier, small services that make a huge difference and/or anything positive that has made you feel more comfortable in working with them.

Any examples would be a massive help and get my creative ball rolling.

    Thanks,

    Keith

IMO agents make the difference rather than agencies.

And providing the same level of service all the time is critical. Usually if they want something from you they are very good(e.g. the client wants you). If you want something from them (feedback such as when the client does not want you) they don't want to know.

We get one every few weeks. The issues are a combination of:-

    1) what is great for one person isn't what someone else wants
    2) if things are ok no one comments, things going wrong result in people screaming so only bad news is reported
    3) libel laws..

If you really want to waste your time go and spend a few months creating the website. I'll happily sit on the sidelines and wait for the death announcement....

    ^^ What he said.

In terms of Agencies, the only thing which separates ones from the other is the standard 'payment terms'. Some pay weekly after you invoice them, some weekly 1 month after invoice, and some (without naming names) are monthly the month following the invoice (which can mean 8-10 weeks payment terms).

Its all about the agents, and they can move from agency to agency, or vanish, and new ones take over. Sorry, but I dont think your site would get anybody looking at it other than agents who would issue you take down notices on the first negative comment.

I think we generally conclude with eek's item 3 and move on.

    Did you try a search?

Here is the most recent one but I'm sure there have been a number of others over time.

I'd go pick you creative ball up, stick it on ebay and buy a research ball instead

We post on here because it's (largely) anonymous.

I wouldn't post anything that could potentially have negative consequences for me, even if it was true.

And imagine if it was totally anonymous. Someone does not get a gig. Decides to take it out on the agent.....
