Giving recruiter consent form - without knowing the client

I was just speaking to a recruiter for an interesting position but he said he couldn't tell who the client is at this stage of the process.

I said fine just go ahead to see if I can interview but he asked me to sign a consent form to state they can represent me. Is it normal to sign the consent form when you don't know who the client is?

No, it's not normal and I wouldn't sign the consent.

    No client name, no consent.

It’s essentially meaningless from your side if you don’t know who the client is, there’s nothing to prevent you signing the same consent with a different agent, you wouldn’t know whether it’s the same client.

On another note, when you do find out who it is make sure you limit the consent to this client only, and only provided your CV is put forward to the client.

Good point. It is meaningless actually in this case. I will mention this as the recruiter sounded a bit inexperienced and asking some odd q's. Thanks for the replies.

Yup - no client name no consent

And only give consent when they confirm they are sending cv, as will known agent scam for taking out the competition
