So, the successful candidate might have to work for free for 3-4 weeks and then they may get converted to a contract. No self respecting contractor would do that surely? Your time would be much better spent networking and looking for a new paid contract.

If the database in question is important then the NHS trust can find some money to pay someone to do the work.

I hope so, we're about to upgrade the CUK server from Lotus 1-2-3 to Access 95.

I wonder if the NHS middle managers on £100K pa with super duper pensions will muck in and help the free IT dept?

Maybe drop them off a food parcel or something?

Work trials to be banned, but will this include "volunteers"

What do trials have to do with volunteer work?

Trials are the same as internships, to get experience as see if you're up to snuff. Volunteer work suggests you're already there and are willing to offer time with no expectation or desire for recompense.

Not when the "volunteer" is a work trial, that MAY lead to a role.

Recommend yourself to every NHS body in the country that is offering the referral fee. Then doo all the volunteer gigs simultaneously until the referral fee criteria are met.
