Communications Manager - What do you make of this?

I have seen this contract advertised on Jobserve in the past 24 hours and can't make head nor tail of it.

It is for a Communications Manager, mentions projects and comms but then reads as if it is some kind of journalistic internal marketing role. If a marketing role then when has it appeared in the IT section on Jobserve.

I know that numerous US companies have roles for Communications Managers that are basically techie roles revolving around internal websites, video and audio but here in the UK are such Internal Communications simply a posh term for PR & Marketing which are usually journo/luvvie roles with no technical stuff?

I was reading the below job spec and it seems very vague. Am I missing something?

It was posted by an Agent, do you really need to ask?

I assume they have just posted the job spec given to them but it doesn't really tell you anything.

Comms in a techie sense and Comms in a PR sense are two completely different things but this description does indicate one or the other.

Seems pretty typical of a lot of positions being advertised at the moment where it appears neither the agent or the client knows what they want, but they think it might be a project manager because that's what's "in vogue" at the moment. I had a couple of interviews at the tail end of last year where mid-interview I was put in the position where I had to explain what a PM actually does and that they didn't really want a PM after all.

Can't be arsed to look at the job but am wondering what your problem is here? Is it that you don't understand the role of a comms manager on a large and/or high profile project, or that it doesn't appear to be IT related and is in the wrong section?

FYI I am running a large and high profile IT programme at present and have a business comms manager managing all programme, business and IT related change communications to all global stakeholders and affected parties.

Nope not at all - flexibility is key in my arena.

Such a shame that dicks like you are dragging down the boards with such childish postings.

You know mate, arrogant tossers like you eventually have your come-upperance. It is the law of Karma.

Remember that you posted stuff like this when Karma comes knocking - and it will. It is usually the arrogant ones that it hits really hard.

It is pointless me asking you this - but is this the way you really wish to live between birth and death? Sounds a pretty pointless existence.

                    WSS.

Reading the ad, a bank - whose head office is in Cardiff but also has a major office in London - are implementing a new IT system which will be used by staff in the branches and involves some form of business change (which may be personnel and/or processes). This is a major programme of work involving many stakeholders scattered geograhically..

To ensure the staff know what is going to happen, someone is going to be tasked with taking responsibility for ensuring the staff know what is going to change, and the significance of those changes. Part of that will entail 'selling' the change to keep people positive and motivated.

This may entail flyers, emails, articles in the in-house journal, presentations, training, follow-up surveys, web site articles and who knows what else.

This is far too much for the programme manager to take on, and too specialist for an admin or support role. So they need someone to manage the communication. Specifically:

                    "COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER - INTERNAL - MARKETING - INTEGRATION - RETAIL BANKING - CARDIFF/LONDON".

                    It seems straightforward to me.
