    Contractor CV job sites

    Hi all,

What job sites are good places to upload a Contractor CV to? So far I have:

    cv-library.co.uk, jobsite.co.uk, monster.co.uk, jobserve.com, totaljobs.com, cwjobs.co.uk, sugarjobs.com, jobs.electronicsweekly.com, newscientistjobs.com.

First 3 on the list have so far provided the most responses. Others I am not so sure of but time will tell. Jobserve profile shows "No Views" which is a little odd as the others probably generated 20 calls between them within a few days. TotalJobs and CWJobs seem to share the same login although with separate CV upload (...confused...). CV-Library seems geared towards permie roles.

Anyway, what sites would people add to the list? Which ones not to bother with, or avoid? Any comments on the above list?

My market is embedded software, electronics, system design type roles. I would like to get exposure direct to companies, ideally, although a steady stream of agency interest is more expected and won't hurt.

    Welcome!

A few useful things about this board -
    1. Use the search facility - virtually every question you can think of has been asked and answered before. If the answer is too old then point that out in your question.

    2. Make sure you read the navigation links on the right hand side under "CUK Navigation".

And finally in answer to your question - the problem with uploading your CV and expecting agencies and companies to look at it is that if your CV has been uploaded more than 3-7 days ago then they won't bother contacting you.

The best thing to do, particularly with a board like Jobserve, is to answer every advert your CV matches. If you do a search there is more info on:
    1. How to write a CV
    2. How closely your CV must match the job spec
    3. How to deal with bulltulipting agents

    Have fun reading!

As SE say's the key is regularly refreshing your CV, even if no changes have been made just upload. When it comes to sites I only really used jobserve as most agents will use tools to upload contracts to multiple sites so the chances of one job being missed is rare.

Spot on there, I found that tweaking my CV in everyway I possibly could made a difference to the amount of views it had. Also look to promote the things that are relevant to your profession like for me it was ISEB, Automated Testing and Opensource Test tools etc

The more you apply for the more likely you'll hear something back and also send your CV to recruitment companies so they have you on file.

        Best of luck

In fact I went a bit further an on jobswerve I had 4 CV's each tuned to slightly different area's, pretty much the same role each time but with a different title and a few keywords swapped around, it would have been a night mare to do something like this on multiple sites

I've found more and more that agencies are running keyword searches across LinkedIN and have been offered 2 roles recently through this.

Whilst there's a thread recently where people have been less than keen on sharing information, I now replicate most of my CV on there.

A good tip is to delete your current role if you're actually benched. I made the mistake of just leaving the last role up there for a while. As soon as I removed it and put a status of "actively looking for new contract roles" the emails can flooding in.

I agree LinkedIn helped me land my last two permanent jobs and I get emails through all thetime from agents

                - Linkedin Profile
                - Dont sit back & rely on agents to come to you as well - be proactive and contact some specialist agents that seem to "specialise" in the embedded software / electronics area
                - Also try Technojobs

there is a contract only job site @ contractjobs.com,

They have a varied amount of roles where something is bound to suit you

But it is worthwhile just refreshing your cv fresh and apply apply apply........the possibility of getting something is better then nothing

Hi, Thanks for all the replies and comments. I've been busy following up on calls from agents, had two interviews, and the usual xmas madness so sorry I've not found time to respond earlier.

Yes, I'm aware that CV uploads need to be refreshed regularly to appear near top of search results. In my view time well spent if it generates a few leads with minimal effort but time wasted if not. So the point was which sites are worth bothering with in this respect?

And to answer my own question: jobsite, theitjobboard, cv-library & monster seemed to "auto-generate" the most cold calls (the last two being mostly for permie roles though). I didn't always ask where the agent sourced my CV but when I did it was one of those.

Jobserve did finally show a handful of views/downloads on my profile (i.e. < 10). Whether this is a result of me applying for roles or from direct searches by agents is not possible to say. This is small compared to the number of calls/emails received since I uploaded my CV and no-one has mentioned Jobserve to me.

I didn't realise that agents might use tools to upload to multiple sites. That's useful to know!

As far as the CV goes, yes it is packed with keywords, and online in its own right, indexed by Google, and linked to from my LinkedIn profile (also now blatantly packed with keywords :P).
