Has anyone contracted in Netherland via their UK limited recently???

    Hi,

Or is it that all go with Umberella option to avail 30% ruling. Atleast I could not find anyone in search.

If you do, why did you choose to do so? do you pay taxes in UK or Netherlands.

What are the do's and dont's.

    Would help.

    Regards,

If you are a UK resident working in the Netherlands through a UK limited company you will continue to pay UK income tax on your salary and dividends paid by the UK company. Your company will also pay UK corporation tax on the income received from the Dutch company.

You may also have to pay tax in the Netherlands but this depends on their tax rules. In my experience it is rare that tax is paid in the foreign country, this only usually applies to longer term engagements where you become resident in the foreign country.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks Martin. It helps. would staying in hotels/b&B/shared flats 5 days a week for 6 months make one resident then?

The type of accommodation should not matter in determining your residency status, though I suppose it may help in proving whether it was your intention to move there temporarily should you need to..

I couldn't tell you what would make you resident in the Netherlands as their rules will be different to the rules in the UK. However, to give you an idea, the two most common ways of becoming resident in the UK are:
          - If you are here more than 183 days (6 months) in any tax year.
          - If you come to live here permanently (3 years or more) you become resident immediately from the date you arrive regardless of the number of days you are in the tax year.

Is your contract short term? We have had a number of clients working in the Netherlands on short term engagements and I don't recall any paying taxes there. It might be best to run your circumstances by an accountant who specialises in foreign taxes, or even the Dutch authorities.

          I hope this helps.

This certainly helps, thanks. My contract would be for 6 months. I know would be a UK resident but can a person or limited company be resident in 2 different countries at the same time for the same duration, specially for taxation purposes.

I will start another thread in appropriate forum looking for foreign tax specialists here or some other forums.

You'll find 9 times out of 10 the agent will insist on using their local brolly or not consider you, unless your are super-stellar of course!

What kind of role is it and what happened to the Ireland one?

Yes, it is possible to be resident in more than one country for tax purposes.

With all due respect, I did not find anyone sharing their experience anywhere after hours of search. There is so much information but scattered. This thread may help someone else too, hoepfully if people share their first hand experience of contracting in NL through UK limited company,
