I know the Greek national costume is a kilt, but this is taking it to extremes
Nothing new about that, standard politician behaviour in fact.
Spin a line to get elected, promise the moon and stars, once in power cover up, prevaricate and fabricate excuses and diversions indefinitely. Only think about it when the next election is just around the corner or when there's civil strife and they're seriously threatening stringing you and your cronies up from lamp posts with piano wire.

Who knows it's all greek to me
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Yes, if you remember, Samaras' rhetoric wasn't so vastly different prior to 2012. One thing is almost certain; the language from Tsipras will increasingly focus on negotiation and consensus, but I don't think he'll get much (more form than substance, barring perhaps a restructure of the debt, to link it to growth. Afterall, everyone knows that a debt of 175% of GDP is simply intractable, except in the very long term, and even then probably not).

I suspect that if the restructuring amounts to payback at zero interest in say 100 years, the EU would rather accept that than play hard-ball and have Greece simply exit.

That will open the door to other countries negotiating the same.

Have you ever lived with 1000% annual inflation?

                      What 1000% inflation?

Are you saying they are better off now than they were before they joined the euro?

You don't give up on your love of the euro do you. Anyone with any fiscal intelligence - not even an expert - realised from the start it would be a crock of sh***.
