      Good comment. Completely agree.

V sad what has happened to the Telegraph, not just Osborne's leaving. Six editors 1923 and 2004, and another six in the last 11 years, since it was bought by the Barclay brothers. Now the job "Editor" has been abolished, and replaced by "e-content wrangler", or some modish webby-sounding guff (says Osborne). When you actually pick up the Telegraph these days, it is light as a feather, as is the "content", and almost entirely devoted to half page ads (says me).

The abrasive american they brought in to run it has peed off everybody. Finally, everybody left. Then he was demoted (says Private Eye). Too late. They should realize that having the proper staff to generate the good "content" is what matters, not whether or not you have enough rotating toasters on the web site.

The Guardian has said this morning that HSBC suspended advertising with them when they covered the story of the leaked tax avoiders. HSBC spends over £5m a year on advertising.

It's not a surprise to anyone following the Scottish independence campaign through the MSM that they were being manipulated by big money.

It's the Guardian in drag these days
          I've noticed that too.

Look at this crap today. Making any comment at all about immigration drives racism apparently. Cameron cannot tackle illegal migrants, Milliband can't talk of tougher controls etc, etc because it all causes racism. Never occurs to the idiot that what really drives racism is not tackling issues of genuine concern.

This is where letting people get away with the odd remark about immigration leads

PS Actually the comparison is unfair on the Guardian. While I don't always agree with it, Guardian correspondents do put reasoned arguments and are not afraid to mention real issues at times. DT correspondents are often total idiots

Possibly because editorial independence is supposed to be one of the fundamental principles of a free press.

Otherwise, there is no such thing as reporting of news that can, to any degree, be trusted. You will be kept in ignorance, knowing only what the highest bidder thinks you should know; and what they think you should know will be what benefits them, not you, or society as a whole.

I thought he made the point quite clearly, complete with examples.

                  +1

really to have any integrity at all you need a firewall between advertising and editorial.

Lol. Check out the current issue of Private Eye for a long, long list of the Guardian's commercial "partnerships", referring to one issue of the Guardian alone. Megacorps of the kind most Guardianista's look down their noses at.

Off topic - and did you see that hilarious 1-page self-authored puff piece in Saturday's Guardian. It was basically an advert, written by the Guardian, for themselves. People working at the Guardian are, well, superb apparently. Readers of the Guardian are like a "family". Their eyes meet knowingly across crowded Tube trains (no, it really said that!). They know the Guardian is always right and that they, as Guardian readers, are always right, and better than everyone else (I added that bit). Seriously daft. Oh and it was asking for money. Accompanied by a large picture of Polly and with most of the text attributed to her.

Was it to send Polly to Dignitas ?
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.
