This is so awful, but it doesn't really make sense.
If he wanted to kill himself why not just jump off a cliff or crash his car? Maybe he didn't do that because he didn't want to be remembered as a failure, when he apparently had everything going for him.

So, he decides to stage a crash hoping it's put down to mechanical failure. He flew the plane into a mountain in an attempt to obliterate the plane and the black boxes. He will be remembered as one of the heroes who tried, in vain, to save the passengers.

I was wondering what the German police found when they searched his house and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find it was phone mast maps and locations of air bases (he knew the Mirages would come). He must have waited for some time for the chance to do this. Stupid, selfish man.

    Or is this bollox too?

      It's not unknown.

It was the most likely explanation for the EgyptAir crash in 1999 and may also be behind MH370

I am very worried by the state of the world we live in. This copilot has grieving family too. Should we not wait until the investigation concludes before hurling accusations?

For all we know, he was having a delusional episode and there is some previously unknown medical history or congenital condition that was missed.

I was told that they announced on German radio 35 people have been arrested over this - has anyone else heard anything about that or is it just the rumour mill powering up?

In this day and age why doesn't the computer on the plane have way of working out the pilot it trying to smash it into a mountain and taking over, instead of a pathetic "Pull up, Pull up" message.

Because we engineers have done just about everything to make a/c safe. No matter what we do, incidents such as this only proof is someone is determined enough to cause the mass loss of life, they can.

Flying remains the safest way to travel. But I'm taking the train next time.

What gives you the right to judge the co-pilot before the investigation has concluded?

He intentionally flew the aircraft into the ground.
I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful. [Christopher Hitchens]

Haven't you been following the news? They recovered the flight recording gear and analysed it.
