You're still covered by the NHS for emergencies but you can use BUPA to get doctors appointments. BUPA is a lot cheaper than a health insurance not backed up by the NHS.

This is probably more feasible than spending a few decades campaigning for a complete overhaul of the NHS.
Don't quite understand what you mean by Health insurance not backed by NHS.

BUPA is a private health insurance provider as well as a care/medical provider. I use the highest cover at BUPA and spend around 90 pounds a month as premium. As a part of the deal, I have a choice of quick care either at private hospitals or at NHS hospitals. All BUPA does is pay for the procedure instead of me waiting for the budget to be approved by some NHS manager twat smoking his arse through a turbocharged pipe.

Actually you can't. I've checked this morning and I would really like to have private GP insurance like I had > 10 years ago, but it doesn't exist.
And even that system was crap since you saw a different locum doctor each time, some of whom were flown in every week from Europe.
I'd be glad to be proved wrong, so I can sign up.
      Are you a loser?
Didn't do too well at school?

I guess he meant 'Specialist appointment'.

          .
I think you'll find BB is talking out of his arse as usual.
He's got a big shock coming if he gets ill.

Problem is some (most) specialists want to be referred by your usual GP, not a private one you've gone to ad hoc, since all your history will reside with your NHS GP.

That may depend on your condition but for a chronic health condition its almost certianly so.

One good thing about the German (public) system is that you can refer yourself to a specialist directly.

In Germany on the public system you won't just pop in and see the doctor as Euler suggests.

Euler talking through his backside as usual, "arse about face"

Apparently Euler's real name is Richard Head, or at least I heard someone referring to him as that.
                I'm alright Jack

                  I have family in Germany.
They don't need a GP referral to see a specialist.

                  Also see here:

"Since 2004, patients can access medical specialists directly, but as a first step towards a GP gate keeper role they have to pay an additional fee if they do not consult their GP first. "

Referrals from general practice to consultants in Germany: If the GP is the initiator, patients' experiences are more positive

Ah so now have we switched the debate to specialists?

I thought we were talking about GP's

As I said you can have BUPA which covers you for specialists.

Perhaps you should consult a specialist that switch your two orifices to back where they should be.
