Apart from anything else a third Heathrow runway would probably mean demolishing a fine old medievil church and nearby tithe barn at Harmondsworth.

What a waste, considering HTOL planes will probably be obsolete within 50 years, and long runways no longer required.

Also, what's wrong with Boris Johnson's idea of a floating airport in the Thames estuary?!
Isn't there enough unexploded ordnance nearby to cause issues ?
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

To be fair, it is the south east that has the capacity problem, not the rest of Britain.

Yes that's the point. It has a capacity problem because there is too much infrastructure already there, attracting too many people, so the airports are now lagging behind.

Put a mega airport in Brum, and watch Brum catch fire and the M25 become usable once again. You have to bite the bullet and light fires elsewhere, instead of standing round a single brazier in the SE.

London's function is to shepherd the country as a whole, not to serve itself until it drowns in its own obesity.

Sorry for the demented spluttering. I gotta cut back on the coffee.
