Its sixty-something pages and quite dense, so I guess a tiny minority will read the whole thing I certainly haven't yet so will reserve judgement. Its not strictly a peer-reviewed paper (yet), its been placed in an open access journal for review and comment, though. James Hansen is the lead author which is what will garner the press attention, but the supporting cast contains pretty much all the leading experts in the relevant specialist areas.
With his 1988 congressional testimony, the then-NASA scientist is credited with putting the global warming issue on the map by saying that a warming trend had already begun. “It is time to stop waffling so much and say that the evidence is pretty strong that the greenhouse effect is here,” Hansen famously testified.
Er no. The evidence just indicates that the earth's average temperature fluctuates, and always has done.

And since about 1950, the 'fluctuations' have just happened to result in a net rise at a faster rate than anything we're aware of in the paleoclimate record.
Funny that.
My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.
Don't have time to read the whole report, just need answer to simple question - would me getting a V12 Ferrari in any way bring the inevitable doom closer?

If you are worried, get a Tesla P90D (which sounds like a tax form to me).
For anyone who is interested, but cant be bothered delving
What Hansen is saying is that the scientific consensus and the IPCC is wrong. Limiting GW to 2c is not enough because even 2c will cause the worlds sea levels to rise catastrophically.
Hansen is the hero of the worlds climate-worriers. but so is the IPCC
hence there is a problem for the pure of heart

Nope, apart from maybe taking many long haul flights, personal lifestyle choices make negligible difference compared to national and international policies on energy, transport &c. A carbon tax, not that it would worry the likes of us, is not on the cards so fill yer boots.

Phew, thanks for that.
I would not have wanted to drive V12 Ferrari with a guilty conscience...
