If you can't do the time, don't commit the crime

British grandfather Karl Andree facing 360 lashes in Saudi Arabia for making wine - Telegraph

Unbelievable that the UK is trying to interfere in the affairs of another country.

Just because he is a UK citizen, what gives him the right to break the laws of another country.

If the UK really objects to how Saudi treats its prisoners then appeal on behalf of all citizens - not just the UK ones. And if that does not work then cut off trading links.

He's done his year in prison. This is something on top that they weren't originally (allegedly) advised about.

Can't they swap him out for a masochist then everyone's a winner!
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

To be fair, the British government often complains to S.A. about the treatment of natives under their criminal "justice" system.

Generally, I understand, the S.A. authorities turn a blind eye to alcohol for personal consumption, which implies he's done something else to incur their wrath. Such as making wine and selling it.

Why shouldn't the UK government try to protect it's citizens wherever they are in the world and attempt to get the best outcome for them?

So much for the myth that they don't mind foreigners drinking alcohol as long as they make it themselves and are discreet.
              I'm alright Jack

Liek NAT said, he's probably got up their nose in some other way.

I'd go for "not being discreet" in some way or other, and that might be unrelated to his wine making activities.

Simply being a gobby expat (and there are plenty of those) might do that trick.

What has South Africa got to do with this?
