I speak from experience. Persians especially are a health nightmare and Maine Coons a status symbol.
To confuse matters further, you also get Norwegian forest cats and Nebelung cats, both of which are fairly similar looking, albeit the latter is virtually impossible to find and almost resembles a cross between a Maine Coon and a Russian Blue.

One of my neighbour's dogs made the mistake of trying to chase away one, only to end up with her legs in tatters. She pretty much freezes on the spot and reverses course if she sees it now.

If you are unsure to have cat's allergie, I advise you to do blood analysis. I adopted one and I started to have asthma.

        I've tested with local cats

At least those that were friendly enough

What do you mean? You already lived with one? I mean long time exposure.

Yes, I had a cat when I was young

But to be sure maybe I'll do the blood analysis you suggest, thanks for the tip!

You mean those that were calculating whether you were another foolish human they could move in with if they felt like it.

If you really want a specific breed then try the breed organisations or cat rescue. There are plenty of cats that need a good home without going to a breeder.

Maincoons are lovely cats but can be prone to heart disease because of their size (it's what happened to ours) and the fur has a life of it's own.

I'd really encourage you to go to the Cats Protection League, the RSPCA or your local animal rescue and take home one of theirs no matter what the breed. It's far better to give an abandoned or unwanted animal a home than encourage breeders to keep producing new ones.

Pity we don't encourage that for chavs as well
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.
