Nope, the answer is a little more complex ... but not much more.

In the UK we have a large black market allowing unregistered people to work and earn good money. Most migrants know some English so the UK is always going to be an easier place to work on said black market.

France has a similar situation when it comes to migrants who have traveled from countries where French is the native language. I guess it's all the 'benefits' of being colonial nations and forcing our language onto the natives

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Do refugees have to stay in the first safe country they reach?

            Claim:

Under the Geneva Convention refugees should seek refuge in the first safe country they come to.

            Conclusion:

Incorrect. The UN Refugee Convention does not make this requirement of refugees, and UK case law supports this interpretation. Refugees can legitimately make a claim for asylum in the UK after passing through other “safe” countries.

            Claim:

No one needs refuge from France.

            Conclusion:

Although France is generally considered a “safe” potential country for asylum seekers, there is legal precedent to suggest France could be considered a risk to an asylum seeker if the authorities fail to offer them the treatment they are entitled to.

            Claim:

The people trying to cross the Channel from France to the UK are not refugees.

            Conclusion:

This cannot be known. It will be determined by immigration officials who review their asylum applications.

Where does a genuine refugee* find the money (around £5000pp reportedly) to make the extremely dangerous journey?

*As in somebody fleeing war-torn Syria, for example.

One wonders what the French authorities are doing about the gangs who are making c.£100k every time a boatload of twenty or so makes the crossing, whether or not they are caught, or worse, drown. They are the real cause of the problem.

Maybe you could pop down with old Farage and interview them to find this out

David Cameron's speech in 2015 urged parliament to support the bombing of Syria. He claimed there were 400,000 Syrian "rebels" who need UK arms ans support. Those rebels turned out to be ISIS. Your Tory mates caused much of the refugee problems.
