Migrants in Calais - why don't they

Just buy a rubber dingy (or equivalent) or organised gangs provide services to leave France and head for England (when better weather comes in) across the channel ?

Or pro migrant groups to organise a Dunkirk style evacuation

Is this a business idea ?

Why do that when you can get smuggled in a luxury car?

Too late, I understand the North London Turks have "first dibs".

They are already doing that. There was something in the news a couple of weeks ago about a group of Brits doing exactly that and were arrested for people smuggling. It's a bit more risky to cross the cold and very busy channel then the quiet and warm sea from Turkey to a nearby Greek island.

There is also no other way to explain the fact the amount of migrants at Calais doesn't grow much at all for many years, the amount that successfully jump on a train or truck and reach the other side is relatively small.

I hadn't realised it was that easy to evade security

evading border protection authorities by driving in luxury cars

I have heard that kayaking across the channel is almost as hard as swimming it.

Someone I met tried a channel swim. Swam 39 miles in 13 hours(!). Was still 8 miles from the coast.

You have to have good navigation. And even then it is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.

Only if the business is sending people to an almost inevitable death

Perhaps we could invest some of that EU money we won't be spending on a load of f* off bitey sharks

As a bonus, they might eat some of those yacht winkers too, stop them bunging up the roads towing their overgrown bathtubs about the place.
