    I agree very strongly. It is an insult to proper autism. Like wearing fake medals at a veteran parade.

We have had to stop some medication as it's basically sent DS1 stratospheric & a new doctor thinks it's a misdiagnosis and the drug has made it worse.

        Hes now about to be tested for allergies/intolerances as thinking is a lot of it can be diet based

        It could of course just be crap parenting and it's a mistake that his sister is now head prefect at her school, while he's destined for borstal.
        Then you should be seeking proper medical help rather than asking CUK which will only lead to nonsense answers. Even if you find ADHD markers, it won't help you solve anything.

        The medical profession will try their best not to help you as it costs money. And because some of them think like you - behavioural issues are caused by bad parenting. You have to hit very hard on a closed door. With alot of effort you can move forwards. I know a few specialists who might be able to help. PM me if you want further details.

          As someone said a few posts earlier if you have a indicator for something you might get tested for that earlier / more rigorously assuming it's something treatable like cancer where early detection before it even becomes symptomatic can be key. Equally if you find you have a propensity to diabetes or a weakness in organ X you may adjust your diet/lifestyle to remove stress on it. A bit like if you know you have dodgy knees, you avoid running and cycle instead

          I think autism is pretty hard to fake surely, it's quite obvious. Or do you mean slight autistic spectrum tendencies like being socially awkward and rude?

                  Genes and medicine

                  There's growing evidence that the effectiveness and/or reactions to different medicines can be explained by differences in genes... for one thing.

                  This is an emerging field, and;

                  - I don't know if 23andme are geared up to report on it yet
                  - I don't know if 23andme would send you follow-up reports as the influence of more genes is picked up in future
                  - The NHS has a '100,000 Genome Project' looking at 'personalised medicine' which covers this area

                  I hope you've managed to get a CAMHS referral for your son? I wouldn't leave a GP to deal with it.

                  I imagine you already found this: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/depts/mrc...ticsgroup.aspx
