The UK's wealth is in large part built on looting India for centuries.
When Britain took over, the states that comprised current day India accounted for 25% of wolrd GDP, when Britain left that area accounted for 3% of GDP.
Before British rule the area was prosperous enough that no one starved.
During Britiish rule, in the 40s, there was a famine that killed > 3 million people.
There has been an amazing turnaround by India considering they just liberalised the economy in 1991.

Get over yourself you arrogant tosser.

I am well aware of the history.

In no way did I state that it is a good, bad or indifferent situation, I just compared the relative population sizes.

It's positive that India's GDP is increasing, lifting millions of people out of poverty.

Indian's getting richer does not make me poorer. It's not a zero sum game.

So your statement that, and I quote,

"It is amazing really that a country with a population of 1.25B has only just drawn level with a country with a population of 65M."

is completely bollox then, isn't it?

It's not amazing at all since one of the countries you compare exploited the other for much of their mutual history.

FFS I wonder how you intellectual 2nd raters even manage to make a living sometimes, your logic is so poor.
      Hard Brexit now!

Says someone that married money, without which he would struggle to get work selling the Big Issue.

The best way to stop feeding Sas's insufferable arrogance is to remove your regrettable cretinism from CUK.

India was held back by their Governments taste for socialism for decades following independence .

Only in the 1980s when they liberalised their economy did things shift up a gear or two.

              Excellent news!
Now, can we look forward to them sending us some aid?

                  FTFY

(Nobody in the Government gives a rats ass about grinding poverty and corruption in India. Why should they? Indians don't have a vote in UK elections.)

It's hard to see that we can give them an amount that realistically makes much difference. Like a mouse trying to help an elephant up the stairs.
