well he certainly likes splashing our cash!

Commons Speaker John Bercow spent thousands entertaining foreign dignitaries and fellow MPs | The Independent

He even entertained an old friend of CUK

The former Labour MP Dawn Primarolo, who served as Mr Bercow’s deputy, got her own dedicated send-off at a “standing down” dinner last year to the tune of £2,057.

So spending money to entertain foreign dignitaries as part of his job is bad, but NOT spending money to put on a show for Trump is also bad?

Just how much public money do you think would be spent on entertaining Donald?

Anyone who will berate the house of commons to stop acting like playground children in front of the nation is better than the vast bulk of them.

Sure you're not upset at the notion and nature of the role of Speaker rather than Bercow himself? Because his predecessors surely did all this crap too, it's weird quirk of our system.

        .
Wow. If we'd known it cost only that much to get the Dim Prawn to stand down, we'd have got the money together for her years ago.

I heard those fascist Bastards at the NSPCC aren't going to invite Rolf Harris to give the keynote address at their AGM.

The speaker HAS to be independent, Berk is not. Using parliamentary privilege to defame someone is also out of order. PE has been on Berks case for a while now and this may be the final nail in coffin.

It won't be. He's got a skin like a Rhino, nothing shames him. He can't be shifted without a concerted effort by MPs and he's just bought himself a load of credit with the Lefties for this rant.

What is it about the Speaker's words that suggests a lack of independence to you?

Many MPs have done it. In some cases to point out someone with money misusing the court system.

If he is required to entertain foreign dignitaries then fine though the idea of people thinking that odious little creep represents HMG scares me. However wining & dining MPs excessively seems wrong.
