    Going Dutch

Netherlands holds inquiry into whether to ditch euro | The Independent

Politicians in the Netherlands have commissioned a report into whether or not the country should keep the euro, with a "comprehensive debate" on the issue expected to take place after the general election next month.

The investigation will examine whether it would be possible for the Dutch to withdraw from the single currency, and if so how, said lawmaker Pieter Omtzigt of the Christian Democrats.

    From the story:

the report were prompted by concerns the European Central Bank's (ECB) ultra-low interest rates were hurting Dutch savers, especially pensioners, and doubts as to whether its bond purchasing programmes are legal.
A bit like the deranged elderly Brexit voters dreaming of a return to the 1970's

While most Dutch voters say they favour retaining the euro, the eurosceptic far-right party of Geert Wilders is expected to book large gains, though it is unlikely to win enough votes to form a government.
There is no chance Wilders will get a majority. The Dutch are not that stupid.

It makes alot of sense Its best for the stronger currencies to withdraw one by one. Until only Greece is left.

I'm a little surprised. I thought the Dutch, like the Germans, benefitted greatly from using the cheap euro to undercut their international competitors.

Going back to the guilder would price Phillips out of the market for starters. Although not sure who buys Phillips products nowadays

              Yeah whatever....

Loads of people in other Western EU countries dislike the EU but they dislike the economic and trading power of the US, China and Russia more.
