"Spain will be given an effective veto over the future of Gibraltar after Brexit under plans announced by the EU.

The draft guidelines drawn up by EU leaders state that the Brexit deal will not apply to Gibraltar without an "agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and the UK".

The clause has taken British officials by surprise. One told the Telegraph it is "absolutely unacceptable" and gives Spain too much power over the future of Gibraltar.

"One really wonders why the EU has thought it sensible to put in something that's a bi-lateral issue between Spain and the UK," they said.

Spain has already hinted that it will block any agreement on airline landing rights after Brexit, with one diplomat telling The Financial Times that a deal "cannot apply to the airport of Gibraltar".

Andrew Rosindell, the Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Gibraltar, said: ""An agreement without including Gibraltar means there can be no agreement.

"British people must and will stand together, we cannot be bullied by Spain, any agreement must apply equally to the whole British family and that includes Gibraltar. There can be no compromise on this."

In the draft negotiating guidelines for withdrawal talks under Article 50, it states: "After the United Kingdom leaves the Union, no agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom may apply to the territory of Gibraltar without the agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and the United Kingdom."

Gibraltar's Chief Minister has warned the peninsular should not be used by Spain as a bargaining chip for Britain’s Brexit negotiations. (AtW's comment: it was obvious that they would)"

    EU democracy in action here.

But Gibraltar doesn't want to become part of Spain. Spain thinks it should be forced to against the wishes of its people. Gibraltar voted by more than 98% in 2002 to tell Spain to piss off.

    UK democracy in action here.

But Scotland does not want to leave EU. Scotland thinks it should not be forced against the wishes of its people. Scotland voted 62% against Brexit in 2016 to tell UK...

Scotland that part of the United Kingdom that voted to remain part of the United Kingdom 2 years ago when the Brexit referendum was already planned. They may have voted differently to majority however as the law requires a majority vote they and other regions will be disappointed that would be democracy sorry you don't understand.

Gibraltar who have clearly and decisively signalled their wish to remain as a british Dependency and reject Spain's advances are now subject to an EU rule that gives Spain power over them, that is not democracy.

Sorry if it seems OK by Vlad's rules.

    So they can't vote again?

Perhaps General election should be done only once, why repeat it every 5 years?

It's really amusing how Brexiters who got the referendum they wanted don't want any more voting to happen, so much for democracy.

Blimey, it's coming out now. So it's true about Russia trying to destabilize the West.

Not unless there's a genuine reason instead of Sturgeon's last gasp attempt under Salmond's instructions, or is that orders?

they can vote again, I would suggest a reasonable interval.

apparently 44 years apart is sensible that was the last time we voted on the EU.

Obviously if they want it sooner the Scottish Government could arrange an advisory referendum & pay for it themselves out of Scottish taxes.
