‘Make in India, finance in the UK’

Philip Hammond and Mark Carney will lead a delegation of top policymakers to India this week to “bang the drum for British business” as the country seeks to strengthen ties outside the EU.

The Chancellor will travel to Delhi and Mumbai to promote Britain as India’s “financial partner of choice”, as the world’s seventh largest economy continues its rapid rise.

Mr Carney will accompany Mr Hammond alongside bosses from financial technology firms including payments company TransferWise.

The Governor of the Bank of England has described fintech as having the potential to transform banking and competition in the sector.

Speaking ahead of the trip next week, Mr Hammond said: “The UK is perfectly placed to be India’s financial partner of choice, helping it to raise the finance needed for its continued rapid growth and my message will be ‘Make in India, finance in the UK’.

“As we leave the EU and embark on an exciting new phase of our economic history, looking to boost our trade and investment beyond the borders of Europe and strengthening our relationships with the world’s most vibrant economies is more important than ever.”

All that's needed is more Indian call centres - lovely.

They are already writing benefit claims processing systems for a certain London borough... I'd rather not live there, TBH.

I've often wondered why the Asians want to work over here when IT is booming in their country and they can move from job to job easily in a relatively high paying industry. The average worker here sharing a terraced house in Bradford could afford a detached property in a good area around Pune with a live in maid.

                Rule of (decent) law.

Everything else follows from it (including high taxes).

But even the good ones are not getting paid over there what an "average worker here" is getting paid. Also, even if you are not very good, you get to work with some of the best people over here, especially in London. Also, you get to play with the latest tech on your client's dime and you make valuable contacts.
