      I really need something rugged with the potholed lanes I drive on. But something that's good on the open road too.

      These crossover SUVs are great up to a point but they're not really built for going off piste.

      My RAV is great in a lot of ways but one of the first things I did was tear the bash plate off when I drove through some deep snow. It was plastic & held on with plastic rivets. Have broken a few springs too thanks to the state of the roads around here.

      Wish they still made the old style land cruiser. Old colleague of mine in KSA had one of the later Brazilian made ones & it was great for wadi bashing.

                LR Disco's are huge, Disco Sports are the Freelander replacement and are ok. If you can wait and want to spend the money then the new RR Velar is lovely.

                Personally I'd buy a car.
